Homemaking: Menu Plan and Intentional Living 10/17/11

Live an intentional life by planning your days...

Menu Plan

Breakfast Menu Plan
Lunch - leftovers or whatever for me (kids eat school lunch and they typically provide lunch for my husband at work)

Dinners:
  1. Gumbo - I'm going to try some variation of this...sounds like you need to add chicken broth from the comments.
  2. Pizza Soup - we have a ton of leftover meat from a scrambled egg dish my husband made on Sunday so I'm going to use in this soup recipe.
  3. volleyball game - ??? might be going out or eating something simple???
  4. KISS (keep it simple silly - same thing every week) Wednesday: Burgers, green beans, baked sweet potatoes (for hubs and me) and smoothies.
  5. Ground Beef Curry from The Local Cook (my cilantro was half frozen and half slimy last week so I want to try this again - maybe I'll use dried) with roasted broccoli and carrots
  6. Some variation of LifeAsMom Jalapeno Popper Potatoes. I think with ground beef and cream cheese.
  7. Hubby cooks - I always try to have meat on hand and he's great at whipping stuff up. Last week it was a scrambled egg skillet....I still want chili!
Other recipes I want to try:
MoreThanMundane posted this magic sauce recipe.
Flank Steak,  french toast recipepork chops,

I want make steak like Qdoba's - any suggestions for a marinade and the meat? I saw this post from SimplyRecipes that looks good. This is a busy week for us so I might have to try it next week.

Grocery shopping looked a little strange last week, but be sure to check back on Friday to see how primalish eating on a budget worked out for us!

Homemaking Plan

I've updated my Homemaking Page on my website with some of my goals. If you are interested, I wrote a post on why goal setting does NOT work for me however setting priorities does.

My one word this week:
AWARE

Aware of the words I speak, the tone I use, aware of other people who are hurting, aware of how I am spending my time.....AWARE....

My daughter is teaching my son how to make whipped cream.
We had popcorn, peaches and whipped cream along with our movie for our family night.

What is it with kids and not being able to get their own water? They ALWAYS drink my water! So this week my daughter was taking a drink of my water and I told her "PUT THAT BACK." Much to my surprise she did.

Yep, she spit it back into the glass! So NOT like her at all...totally cracked me up!

I crawled in bed with my son the other night to say goodnight. I thought he might be sleeping so I was surprised to see his hand going towards my head. I thought - oh how sweet he's going to pat my head...nope, he FLICKED MY HEAD! And here I was afraid of the tween and teen years....they are SO MUCH FUN! I love it!

Lesson learned: Do NOT dread the teenage years - embrace them!

  1. Hi ~ stopping by from MPM. Your weekly menu plan looks great and I love some of the recipes you've posted. I've never heard of pizza soup before and the ground beef curry looks interesting. Your family will be eating well this week! Have a great one :)

  2. Thanks Michelle - that's if I follow it! I always seem to change it but that's okay...I have good intentions.

  3. Your menu plan seems pretty good. I need to have some curry now, your recipe reminded me how much I like it!

  4. I'm loving the different recipe ideas I keep finding here. We're in a bit of a rut; it's keeping us within a tight budget so that much is good. I'm going to check out the Potato Poppers recipe and I forgot about curry. I also like how you are sharing how the grocery shopping worked out with your plan. How much is your grocery budget? Ours works out to $50/person/week but it includes cleaning, paper and basic personal care products.

  5. It is so easy to get into a rut. I see burger, cream cheese and beans and automatically throw it in a pot. If you put it over potatoes and add jalapenos it is a completely different dish (thankfully LifeasMom thought of that!)

My grocery budget I talked about here:

  6. Thank you for putting the teenage years in a positive light. Our kids are still small (not yet in school) and so many parents make the teenage years sound awful so you kind of dread them.

It's nice to hear a parent of a teen say that they're actually fun!
