Do You Resent Homemaking?

I find it ironic that I, a person who has decided "homemaking" is my profession, can despise homemaking on occasion.

I was making dinner the other night and I wasn't enjoying it at all. I was in a hurry, trying to help my son with his homework and get him fed before he had to leave for youth group.

You know when I resent homemaking? When I don't have "margin" in my life. When I decide that other good things are more important than homemaking. My family deserves better than that! As a matter of fact, so do I.
I don't want to "just get through" another day. I want to enjoy it! Whether I'm making dinner, vacuuming or cleaning toilets.
When I'm not "too busy" I enjoy all those things...yes I can even enjoy cleaning toilets (because I do it Flylady's way). So how do we create margin?

Be very intentional.
Choose GREAT things, not good things.

Do you have any other tips for keeping margin in your life? I haven't read this post yet, but I'm about to..."Do You Need White Space" over at SimpleMom.

  1. i think homemaking can be like any other job sometimes. there are times you couldn't be happier to do it and other times you're over it. :)

  2. FlyLady helped me because I learned to clean more efficiently and in a more pleasant way (cleaning things that are clean is nicer than cleaning things that are nasty because it was put off too long!)

  3. I love being a homemaker, but hate the cleaning part of it. Right now my house is a disaster. The more I look at it, the more I resent it at the moment. I probably should head over to Fly Lady and have her help me out. I definitely need to create more margin in my life.

  4. You should really try out Flylady's system. I love the parts of it I've chosen to do!!! I used to feel so overwhelmed all the time....now I only feel overwhelmed every now and then.
