Tell Your Time by Amy Lynn Andrews

Back in December, I wrote a post called "The Tightwad Gazette: Investment Purchase". I mentioned in that post that I had bought the e-book "Tell Your Time". I've finally finished working on the ebook. Yep, it was work...in a good way! It's not a sit back, read it, then forget it kind of a book.

I've never purchased an ebook before. I love "real" books. Holding them, reading them, re-reading them. The paper. Yep, everything about them. In fact, my husband was going to buy me a digital reader for Christmas until I told him how much I hated the idea of them. OOPS.

I first heard about this ebook, after Amy did a guest post over at MoneySavingMom one day. I had been following Amy's blog BloggingWithAmy for a while so I knew the style of writing that she had.
Here's part of what Amy wrote at MSM:

Time Budgeting

If you’ve read Money Saving Mom® for any length of time, it’s likely you have heard Crystal talk about the envelope system for money management. The goal of the envelope system is to pre-determine where you will spend your money so as not to overextend yourself financially.

Earlier this year when Crystal and I discussed how to make her schedule more workable, I told her about a similar concept which I refer to as “envelopes of time.” They work the same way in that you pre-determine where you will spend your time so as not to overextend yourself commitmentally (is that a word?).

A light bulb went off in my brain when I read envelopes of time. I knew she was onto something that would really help me manage my time better, but I knew I would never buy the ebook. Why would I? Between what she wrote and what Crystal wrote later on, my cheapness kicked in I knew I could figure it out on my own.

How wrong I was!!! I tried doing this on my own, but I knew that Amy had prepared some step by step instructions as well as some worksheets to help. I hadn't figured it out on my own after reading several "managing your time" books so I'm not sure why I thought I could figure it out.

What kept coming back to me was "envelopes of time." I know exactly how well envelopes work for managing our money so I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy the ebook.

I'm so glad that I did! It took me forever to finish it because I couldn't figure out how to make one of the worksheets "The Grid" fit into my life. I finally figured out that I needed to give up on that worksheet for now and focus on incorporating the ideas that I've gleaned so far.

After I get my routine down a bit more I'm going to go back to that worksheet and see how it's supposed to work out. Right now, I'm just a little too flexible in my role as a home maker. I guess I need to do baby steps here too!

I highly recommend that you buy Tell Your Time and follow the advice in it. Believe me, you won't regret it!
