My friend warned me the other day about the damage that can happen when you get a pin size hole in a plastic water hose. If you have a water/ice dispenser in your fridge, then make sure that you do NOT use a plastic hose....mine is stainless steel and I believe they might sell copper tubing as well.
Unfortunately, they had a plastic hose that had a little leak in it and they had water gushing into their basement. Can you imagine if they had been gone on vacation? They would have had a horrible, costly mess to clean up!
When we bought our house, our home inspector told me to get rid of the plastic hoses that were going to the washer immediately! He said that has an insurance adjuster (his other job) he got called out to many homes because they'd wear out and flood homes.
Sometimes, in order to be frugal, you need to spend money! Maybe it should be, sometimes in order to be wisely frugal, you need to spend money. Whatever. Regardless - replace these hoses ASAP!
