Flylady

Note: this post was originally written last July. Apparently I'm on a flylady mission lately!

I've mentioned before how much I love Flylady and her cleaning system. I hear comments from people that say that woman is way too intense, there is no way I can clean all the time like she does.

If you have read her story, you would know that she has this cleaning system because she can't/won't clean all of the time. Here's what you are supposed to do when you join her email list:

That's it. Why are you supposed to do that? Does it really matter? If your house is a mess and you want to try something new, JUST DO IT (says NIKE). If you aren't willing to try something new then you aren't ready to try something new.

Before Flylady, if I had company coming I would clean for HOURS! I was so exhausted that I didn't enjoy my company.

After Flylady, I clean because I want to have a clean house (not perfect, but decent). If I "bless my home" on Monday and have company over on Friday, I might take 5 minutes run through living room and kitchen with my dust mop and feather duster, but that's it.

What doesn't work and does work for me is the daily 15 minutes in a zone. It doesn't work because I don't  make it a priority, it does work because my house LOOKS AMAZING when I do it!

Are you ready to try something different to get your house in order? Follow Flylady for 1 week and see if you notice any changes. You are NOT supposed to do everything she does, you are supposed to baby step your way through this life style change!

  1. I fell off the wagon of FlyLady. I think the method is great but I've read (half) of another book that points out that the sink may not be your "thing". For some people it's their bed or bathroom or front porch or couch. The key is to find your "thing" and keep it clean and work from there. :)

  2. I love Flylady. I always tell people to set her daily emails to "digest" format so as not to get overwhelmed, and go from there. When I stick to her system... which is not often recently... it really is pretty simple.

My WFMW post today is about how I make my online time pay off in terms of happy snail mail.  :)

  3. I totally agree NeedANap2! Mine is my Island. I started with the sink though and understood the concept before I changed my thing.

Amy - I forgot about the diget format. That's exactly what I do. I don't read it every day, but it's a great reminder.
