There are so many recipes for BBQ sauce. Every single one of them that I tried, I didn’t like. I found a recipe called "In a Pinch Ketchup" on allrecipes.com and didn’t like it as ketchup, but I liked it as the beginning of a BBQ sauce. This is not our perfect BBQ sauce yet, however it’s much closer than what I have tried before. It’s good enough for now. If you try this, please note that it doesn’t look like regular BBQ sauce – it’s more red than brown.
1 c tom sauce (this time I used a 15 ounce can of tomatoes from Sam’s and blended in my blender)
1 T vinegar
2 T brown sugar
1 t garlic powder
1 t onion powder
Pinch of allspice
1 t salt
2T molasses (which I ran out of so I only used 2 ½ T)
½ t liquid smoke (what’s in that stuff that makes it so delicious?)
I simmered all of these ingredients together with a handful of onions/garlic from my OAMC adventure for 45 minutes.
I wouldn't think that finding a BBQ sauce recipe that we liked would be all that difficult. I don't want to use ketchup as the base and I think that is the issue. If you have any BBQ sauce recipes that you love that don't have ketchup in them, let me know!
