Emergency Food!

Last year during the 30 below cold spell we had, a water line burst and flooded our basement. For some odd reason the plumber decided to put the copper tubing right against the exterior wall. Not a good idea! We had to keep the main water valve turned off until the plumber (a different one!) could come and fix the problem. Thankfully it only took two days. We were smelly, but we had food to eat, could brush our teeth and we could flush the toilet with water that I have stored. Boy toilets use a lot of water!

I have been a member of Frugal-Families for years. Several people on that forum gave reasons why you should have emergency food and water on hand. Convenience food and paper plates/bowls. I don't normally buy canned soups or canned chicken because I don't care for them, but in an emergency they are wonderful to have. Or when your daughter goes to the orthodontist and you have nothing soft for her to eat. That's kind of an emergency right?

The other thing I picked up recently is beef jerky. Whenever we travel I always buy beef jerky. Now when I buy it for our trip, I'll trade it out with my emergency food stash so I won't have issues with food going bad. As needed I buy saltines, canned fruit and peanuts. I'll do the same thing with them so the food doesn't expire.

While we were busy cleaning up our huge mess, we didn't have to run out to get food. It was amazing what a few convenience items did to make my life easier. Right now I'm using up the canned soup so they don't expire. My kids love Campbells!
